After failing to win any of their previous four games, including a loss vs South Melbourne which saw them exit the Dockerty Cup, Heidelberg United hoped to get back to winning ways at home vs Knights, who were hoping to continue their winning streak after a 1-0 victory over Manningham United.
This was easier said then done as the home side instantly forced Knights onto the back foot, with the likes of Leo Mazis providing the home fans with entertaining attacking football. However, Chris Oldfield was class as always, and kept a first half clean sheet to ensure Knights went into the changing rooms still at 0-0.
The decision to sub Sabit James Ngor on proved to be an inspired one for Heidelberg, as Ngor crossed the ball into Mo Aitara only twelve minutes after coming on. Aitara took his chance nicely and gave Heidelberg the lead in the 65th minute.
Knights began to attack with more urgency after Aitara's goal, but the excellence of Yaren Sözer in goal prevented Knights from scoring. The away side began to grew frustrated, and would eventually pay the price, as Ngor danced through the Knights defense before assisting his second goal of the night, this time finding Asahi Yokokawa for the finish in the 80th minute.
Knights threw everything they had at Heidelberg after Yokokawa's goal, but nothing came of it, as the away side lost 2-0 and now look a serious doubt for finals. They'll have a chance to right their wrongs next week at home vs Altona Magic, while Heidelberg travel out to Coburg for an away match against Moreland City.
